Moving for MND

How can I move for MND?

There's lots of ways you can move, and you can be as creative as you want to be.

Check out our Move At Home and Move In Your Neighbourhood pages for some ideas if you’re stuck. Remember, you're doing this for yourself because we all know being active is healthy! If you can raise some dollars and awareness for all Australian’s living with MND on top of being active, you will be classified as a superstar by us!

How long will this event last?

This event will run from Sunday 3 May 2020 to Sunday 21 June 2020. It commences at the start of MND Awareness Week and ends on MND Global Awareness Day.

Can I continue moving once the virtual event ends?

Yes! We encourage you to be active as much as possible. Keep moving for yourself but if you wish to incorporate more fundraising into what you’re doing, your fundraising page will be open until the end of July. Once the current lock down measures are lifted, your local State Association will have many physically challenging events that you can join as a participant and fundraiser so keep your eyes out for them!

Do I have to dress up to move?

Not at all. You can wear whatever you feel comfortable moving in. But feel free to dress up if you wish – it will add to the fun of the campaign!

Do I have to document/track my movement?

It's totally up to you. We encourage you to share your involvement in AM4MND with your personal networks and use #AM4MND when posting on social media. It's up to you how much you want to post. You might like to post a photo whenever you move or record your movement in a table and share it with your family/friends.

In the current COVID-19 environment, how can I move within current restrictions?

Current government restrictions are different in each state. Please visit the below websites for information regarding restrictions in your state:

I have a private social media account. Will my post be public if I use the #AM4MND hashtag?

If you have a private Instagram account, only people who follow you can see your post.
Other accounts will not be able to see the post in the #AM4MND hashtag page or through direct message.

With Facebook, only people you have shared your post with can see it in that hashtag’s feed. If your audience is set to Friends, people you’re friends with can see your post in the #AM4MND hashtag feed. If your audience is set to Public, then your post will appear on your public profile and in the #AM4MND hashtag feed.

Getting started

How can I join in?

Register online (for free!) in your state to help support your local MND Association. You can also share videos and pictures of how you’re moving online – make sure to include #AM4MND in your post!

How do I create a fundraising page?

When you register you will automatically be set up with a fundraising page. You will receive an email (check your spam email if you don’t receive it) with a link so you can view, edit and share your fundraising page.

We encourage you to upload photos and tell everyone the reason why you think it’s important to raise funds and how those funds will help people in Australia living with the disease.

Do I have to fundraise?

No, but funds raised through AM4MND event are a vitally important part of our fundraising activities. We do therefore encourage everyone to fundraise and can provide ideas and resources to help you get this started. For more information contact: fundraising@mnd.asn.au

Do I have to pay?

No! Registration is free for this virtual event.

How do I create a Team?

Login to your fundraising page and view the dashboard. On the right side of the page there is a box titled “create a new team”. Enter your team name and then click “create”. Final step is to share this with your family, friends and colleagues and ask them to join your team.

I am having trouble registering, what should I do?

Can I add people to my team after I have registered myself?

Absolutely and we encourage that! On your team fundraising page, click on “invite members” located under the team members section at the bottom of the page. From here, insert up to five (5) team invitations at a time.


How do I fundraise?

There are many ways to do this. Start by asking family, friends and work colleagues to support you by donating to your fundraising page. Share the reasons why you're participating on your fundraising page and share this on social media. Hold a virtual event like a dinner party or afternoon tea party - there are lots of ways to raise funds.

What happens to the funds raised?

All funds raised will help deliver care and support to people living with MND. In addition, funds will be used to support research into finding cause, potential treatment and cure.

How much money has been raised?

You will be able to see a live total on the AM4MND homepage. Every dollar counts!

I am having issues with my fundraising page, what can I do?

Please contact fundraising@mnd.asn.au and we will help you sort out any issues.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes. Every donation (above $2) received will automatically generate a tax receipt that will be emailed to the donor.

How are tax receipts generated?

Whenever anyone makes a donation to your fundraising page, a tax receipt will be automatically generated and sent via email to the person making the donation.

When does my fundraising page close?

Your fundraising page will remain open for one month after the Walk event takes place.

How long do people have to donate?

Fundraising pages will be open until one (1) month after Global MND Day (Sunday 21st June) so there is plenty of time for you, your friends, family and colleagues to donate!
